With an allocation of €800,000, this stream allows successful applicants to access up to €20,000 in grants, from which they can draw down 90%. However, they must contribute at least 10% from their own funds toward eligible project costs.
On the other hand, the second funding stream targets venues that are newer to the scene. These venues must have programmed Irish-based artists within the last ten months and commit to fostering the growth of local talent through the support they receive. Eligible venues can access grants of up to €8,000 from a total fund of €200,000, with a minimum grant set at €3,000.
Application Process and Evaluation
Applications for funding will be assessed by a panel based on various criteria. A total of 80 marks is available, with scoring determined by the suitability and track record of the venue, as well as the quality of the application submitted. Successful venues will be notified with an offer that outlines the estimated funding available, contingent on remaining funds in the scheme.
The timeline for events supported by this program is crucial; all events must take place by November 8, 2026, and all draws for funding must be submitted by November 13, 2026. This structured timeline is designed to ensure that the initiative effectively supports the local music scene while allowing venues to plan and execute their events responsibly.
Eligibility Criteria
Both funding streams come with specific eligibility criteria. Eligible venues must have a capacity of 500 people or fewer and must provide photographic evidence of their audience space or dance floor. Additionally, they need to have the necessary equipment to facilitate live music performances and dedicated personnel to manage operations.
Certain venues are excluded from participation, including hotel bars, sporting venues, third-level colleges, private residences, and festivals. This ensures that the funding specifically targets those spaces that genuinely contribute to the live music culture in Galway.
Increased Funding Opportunities
Significantly, funding for the scheme has doubled from €500,000 in 2025 to a substantial €1 million this year, reflecting a commitment to expanding musical opportunities across the city.
